Maybe I’ve Been California Dreaming: Claire Reneé

Claire Renee is a singer-songwriter and dancer based in Los Angeles, CA; originally from the Bronx, NY, she began her foray into performing as a child when she got accepted at the Dance Theatre of Harlem to study ballet, tap, jazz, and classical dance at the age of 10, after which she proceeded to attend the prestigious Ailey School/Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS); it was this head start that planted the seeds of her passion for not just movement, but also for making music, and soon after she would find herself watering those seeds by attending several acclaimed music schools, including Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA; her background as a dancer informed her unique vocal style, evident in the delightful lilts, exquisite cadences and off-kilter flows of her verses; she broke into the scene in the spring of 2013 with her first EP Doubts, Dreams, and Ambitions, which showcased her raspy yet winsome vocals and astute storytelling set to a unique blend of hip hop soul and boom bap; later that year, she released Wasted Years, a collaboration EP with Joe Grisly, which featured more of her early writings, this time set to neo soul and ’90s-style R&B; a second collaboration effort, Breaking Code (with Brooklyn-based producer Bagir-Ba), followed shortly thereafter, further flexing her neo soul muscles; by 2017 she decided to move to Los Angeles to make it on her own, and that journey fuelled a solo LP, Let Me Glo, released later that year under the Japan-based label Sweet Soul Records, which mixes the formulas of its predecessors, but this time with experimental R&B and jazz thrown in for good measure, cementing her place in the industry as a global artist; West Coast breezy melodies and East Coast gritty lyricism find a shared language in Let Me Glo, and the LP has garnered wide attention with the lead single “Easy Come, Easy Go (Nights With You)” and the follow-up L.O.L.;” she is currently wrapping up a new quarantine-inspired EP that will be released towards the end of the summer of 2020, as well as a full-length album to be released next year; visit her Website clairereneemusic.com to listen to her songs, or her YouTube channel to watch her videos; follow @artisterenee on Instagram for updates on upcoming releases and shows
